The Can Opener is a tool for opening cans.

Overview[]

Open canned goods are converted into a new item listed in the Inventory as 'Open canned [food]' and 'Fresh'. Now open they deteriorate as other fresh foods do, dependent on refrigeration or freezing, toward spoiling and becoming 'rotten'.

Open canned goods can be consumed straight away without additional cooking, and yield an empty can that can be used as a container, for water for example.

One is found in the Tutorial House, and others can be found most often in kitchen cupboards around the town. It cannot be equipped as a weapon.

To use a can opener combine Canned Soup, a Cooking Pot, and the Can Opener in the crafting window. This will yield a Pot of Soup, uncooked, that be cooked for additional nutrition using a hob or Campfire.

Cans not in the player's inventory can be opened without interacting with the a can opener directly. When the can opener is in an inventory outside the player, for example a cupboard or crate, cans in the same inventory can be opened simultaneously to taking by choosing to open the can. The can opener is temporarily possessed by player and returned automatically once the opening action has been completed.

The same action to take and open the can simultaneously can also be carried out when the player possesses a can opener, without interacting with the can opener directly. For this reason it is not always necessary to possess a can opener early in play, saving on weight, as they are relatively common.

Trivia[]

  • Canned Tuna and Canned Sardines do not require a can opener.
